From the intersection of US Routes 160 & US 491
(formally US Route 666) in Cortez, CO head south for 8.4 miles to County
Road B with the green street sign and veer right. (Note:
Do not turn at CR B7 which has a red street sign. CR B
is one mile further south than CR B7. Make sure you turn at the
green street sign shown above, not the red street sign, one mile too soon) |
Travel .8 mile down CR B until you see this
intersection. It is CR 20 1/2 (CR 20.5) Turn right |

After you have been on County Road 20.5 for
approximately 1.7 miles, You will arrive at the Yucca House parking area.
The next few photos and discriptions (below) further break down this last
1.7 miles. This will help further clarify the route. |

As you travel along the first 0.4 mile of CR20.5, you
will see a white house way off in the distance. This is the ranch
house whose driveway is used as the Yucca House parking area. At 0.4
miles the road turns to the left. |
At about 0.5 miles more and the road turns right again,
and then you drive another 0.5 miles and the road turns left again (as
pictured above). |

Travel about another 0.4 miles and you will come to a
gate. Sometimes it's open and sometimes it's closed. If it's
closed, go ahead and open it, drive through, get out of your car again and
close the gate behind you. |
Drive another 174 yards past the gate and you will pass
by the old ranch house. |

Immediately past the ranch house, on the other side of
the road (left side) is where you park and then walk to the monument. |

You will have to pass through a horse corral before entering the monument. |

You will pass through two gates. One on
each side of the corral. Please make sure you close the gates you
pass through. |

<< At the far side of the corral is the second gate.
It is the entrance gate to Yucca House National Monument. You can
sign the register book just to the left of the monument entrance gate, and
then go on in and enjoy the monument. |
