The Valley Visitor Center is situated in Yosemite Valley at Shuttle Bus Stops #5 and #9 (see shuttle map). The center offers natural history displays, audio visual programs, and an accommodating staff to answer visitor questions. Books and maps are available in the attached bookstore. The "Spirit of Yosemite", a state-of-the-art, wide-screen, 23-minute film about Yosemite National Park is presented in the newly renovated West Auditorium Theater behind the Valley Visitor Center. In the Valley Visitor Center itself, a short video program will also give you basic information about how to get the most out of a brief visit. Behind the Valley Visitor Center is an outdoor exhibit called the Indian Village of the Ahwahnee that is open year-round. The Miwok and Paiute cultures are presented here. Rotating exhibits in the Museum Gallery continue to cultivate the arts in Yosemite. Wilderness Center - Located in Yosemite Village between The Ansel Adams Gallery and the post office, the Yosemite Valley Wilderness Center is a one-stop location for backpackers, offering wilderness permits (required for overnight wilderness travel), maps, guidebooks and bear-resistant canister rentals, as well as other valuable pre-trip planning (closed in late fall and winter). There are also Wilderness Centers in Wawona, Big Oak Flat and Tuolumne Meadows. |

Big Oak Flat Information Station is located on the Big Oak Flat Road (via Highway 120). The station has well-versed Park Rangers and Yosemite Association staff on hand to answer any questions you might have. Books, maps and wilderness permits are also on hand. The hours vary and it's closed in winter. Tuolumne Meadows Visitor Center is only open in the summer . It has exhibits that feature information on area geology, ecology, flora and wildlife. Also featured is information on the area's human history. Another interesting exhibit reflects naturalist John Muir's perception of Yosemite. Books and maps are also available here. Wawona Information Station - Located at Hill's Studio near the Wawona Hotel and the Pioneer Yosemite History Center in Wawona, the station provides information on interpretive programs and park activities. Books, maps and wilderness permits are available. Hours vary (closed in winter). |
