Hetch Hetchy Reservoir and
O'Shaughnessy Dam
are the main source of water and a source of electrical power for the city
of San Francisco
(photo below), over 150 miles away. A network of aqueducts
and tunnels carry the water into the city.
Work on Hetch Hetchy began in earnest in 1914, eight years after the great
San Francisco earthquake of 1906. |
