To reach Vermillion Cliffs National Monument from Flagstaff, travel north on U.S. Highway 89. From Kanab, Utah take U.S. Highway 89 to the east or 89A to the south. There aren't any paved roads within the monument.

To get some idea of the size of these cliffs, find the dirt road climbing the side of the lower cliffs in the image above

Vermilion Cliffs National Monument borders Kaibab National Forest to the west and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area to the east.

These signs, just off Hwy 89, explain the history and geology and describe the flora and fauna of the area.
