Mission San José de Tumacácori is one of three historic Spanish colonial missions protected Tumacácori National Historical Park. Mission San José de Tumacácori was established in January 1691 by Jesuit Father Eusebio Francisco Kino. Located on 310 acres at the town of Tumacácori, Arizona, it is open to the public from the Tumacácori National Historical Park visitor center. Altogether, Tumacácori National Historical Park protects three Spanish colonial mission ruins in southern Arizona: San José de Tumacácori, Los Santos Ángeles de Guevavi, and San Cayetano de Calabazas. The adobe structures are on three sites, with a visitor center at Tumacácori. These missions are among more than twenty established in the Pimería Alta by Father Kino and other Jesuits, and later expanded upon by Franciscan missionaries. |
