Sequoia National Park was the second National Park in the United States. Only Yellowstone is older.  Neighboring Kings Canyon was the 3rd National Park. Today, Sequoia and Kings Canyon are managed as one park.

Above is a view of Sequoia National Park peaks from the top of Mount Whitney.  At approximately 14,505 feet, Mount Whitney is the highest mountain peak in the contiguous 48 states of the USA.  The western side of the peak lies within Sequoia National Park.
