There is more information about the
historically significant and extensive aqueduct, irrigation, and dam
system found throughout the San Antonio mission area in the Mission Espada
portion of this web site. The Flour Mill (shown above and below) is powered by a waterwheel (below) in the lower story of the mill. |

| A direct shaft drive goes up through the first story roof and into the upper story. The shaft turns the grinding stone in the upper story of the mill (see below). There are two stones which are used to grind the grain. The lower stone turns while the upper stone stays stationary. There is a hole in the middle of the upper stone which allows the grain to fall down in between the two stones. As the grain is ground down, it is pushed out into the small wooden bucket on the floor. | |
