The Stout Grove Trail is a very easy paved ½-mile walk
through large redwoods During the summer you can reach the grove
from Jedediah Smith Redwoods State campground, aor year round from Howland
Hill Road, seven miles east of Crescent City.
The relatively level Stout Grove trail is an easy, 1-hour amble through the redwood grove. The Smith River runs alongside the grove. The river's impact at Stout Grove has created a fairly level forest floor with light vegetation, and unusually stout trees from the rich river soils. |
