Burl on Redwood tree

The relatively level Stout Grove trail is an easy, 1-hour amble through the redwood grove.  The Smith River runs alongside the grove.  The river's impact at Stout Grove has created a fairly level forest floor with light vegetation, and unusually stout trees from the rich river soils.
