The Quinault Rain Forest is one of four rich temperate rain forest on the the west side of the Olympic Mountains. The Quinault Rain Forest follows the North and East Forks of the Quinault River. These forks meander down the valley and merge into one Quinault River, which then enter beautiful Lake Quinault. Because the rain forest completely surrounds Lake Quinault, it allows for a unique biological community along the shoreline. It’s the rainfall that makes the Quinault Rain Forest unique. Moisture comes in the form of rain, drizzle and fog. There is an average of 10 to 15 feet of rainfall each year. Moisture is everywhere. Clouds, fog, forest growth, and a valley open to southwesterly winds help keep temperatures moderate summer and winter. The moisture and moderate temperature ensure lush plant growth and provides habitat for a wide variety of animals. |
