During the Siege of Ninety Six, Fort Star was the major objective of the American attack. It was defended by 200 New Jersey Loyalists and South Carolina militia. |

During the siege loyalists added the protective traverse and dug a 25-foot well. They found no water, and slaves continued to sneak water to them at night through the communication trench. |
