These ruins were
originally excavated in the 1930s and later restored in the 1960's.
A new protective roof was added in 2003 by the BLM after Lowry Ruin became
a part of the Canyon of the Ancient National Monument.
Lowry Ruins is accessible
by a self-guided trail (with wheelchair ramps). Lowry Ruin is
medium-sized pueblo with about 40 rooms and 8 kivas. The site was
abandoned around 1150 A.D. One of the more interesting features is a
kiva that was excavated by archaeologists. They found plaster and
wooden shelves still intact. |
