Bumpass Hell Trail

The Bumpass Hell Trail is a 3 mi round-trip trail.  It's one of the best trails in the park. Allow 3 hours to really enjoy the stroll.  From the trail you will see a sample many of the parks features.  Views along the trail are grand, scenic and expansive.  At the end of the trail is Bumpass Hell.  Located here are some of Lassen's best thermal features.  It is also the park's largest thermal area, full of boiling springs, steam vents, and mud pots.  The parking area is 6 miles from the southwest entrance, or you can follow the directions below and cut off a couple of 10ths of a mile.

You can cut a off a couple tenths of a mile of the Bumpass Hell trail if you park in the small parking lot across from Lake Helen and scamper up the small hill above to the trail.  Notice 2 hikers on the trail in upper right of above picture and the road at the base of the picture.  The same spot is shown below as viewed from the trail.
