Lake Mead National Recreation Area offers a myriad of things to do and places to see all year long. Its lakes delight boaters, water skiers, swimmers, sunbathers, and fishermen. Other visitors tour the monuments desert by road, or hike the terrain for a more up-close and intimate experience. Wildlife and Landscape photographers find plenty of opportunity to hone their craft.

The National Park Service website explains that three of America's four desert ecosystems--the Mojave, the Great Basin, and the Sonoran Deserts--meet in Lake Mead National Recreation Area. As a result, this seemingly barren area contains a surprising variety of plants and animals, some of which may be found nowhere else in the world.
