Hohokam Pima

The 2,501 acre Hohokam Pima National Monument is located northwest of Sacaton, in south-central Arizona, north of Casa Grande. Hohokam Pima preserves the archeological remains of the Hohokam culture, including homes, artwork, irrigation canals, and tools dating from about 300 BC to AD 1200. Hohokam is a Pima Indian word meaning "those who have gone." The monument was authorized on October 21, 1972. |

The NPS doesn't really seem to want people to know where this monument is, probably for fear that it's unprotected sites will be molested by uncaring citizens. As you can see from the photos on this page, there's not much to see at the monument for those with an untrained archeological eye. The NPS website states, "Operating Hours: Not open to the public". |
