In Great Smoky Mountains National Park, ridge upon ridge of endless forest straddle the border between North Carolina and Tennessee.  It's one of the largest protected areas in the Eastern United States.  It's by far the most visited National Park in the United States.  Recognized world-wide for the diversity of its plant and animal life and the beauty of its grand old mountains, the park draws over nine million visitors each year.  The Smokies are a hiker's paradise with over 800 miles of trails.
