Redwoods cut
down more than 100 years ago have re-grown into a lush new forest from the
stumps of their predecessors. These "young" trees now tower overhead and,
alongside mixed evergreen woodlands, comprise more than 1200 acres of the
West Union Creek watershed. Douglas firs, California Bay Laurels and
Madrones add diversity to the canopy. At your feet, redheaded Amanita
mushrooms add colorful splashes to the green carpet of redwood sorrel,
bracken ferns and milkmaids. |
