Fort Sumter is on an island (above picture). The
only way to visit the actual Fort Sumter is by boat. One Ferry
leaves several times a day from this visitor center.
Fort Sumter Visitor Education Center
at Liberty Square The Fort Sumter Visitor Education Center at Liberty Square is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except for New Years, Thanksgiving and Christmas Days. The exhibits in the Visitor Center display artifacts and information about Fort Sumter, Fort Moultrie, Patriots point and other NPS sites in the area. Fort Sumter is where the first shot of the Civil War was fired, beginning the American Civil War. |
