Rim Visitor Center (above left and below) is located at Rim Village which also includes a gift shop, cafeteria, and Crater Lake Lodge. A path on the lake side of the Visitor Center leads down to Sinnott Memorial (above right), a spectacular overlook and museum with hi-tech exhibits on geology and lake research. Sinnott Memorial Overlook is perched on a rock ledge about fifty feet below the crater rim. At this panoramic viewpoint you can get some idea of the main features of the lake and rim. The blue lake surface is nearly 900 feet below you, and the opposite rim of the crater is more than 5 miles away. Crater Lake is the deepest alke in the United States at more than 1,900 feet. Sinnott Memorial Overlook is open July through September weather permitting. |

Steel Visitor Center located at the park headquarters is open all year. A special 16-minute film, The Crater Lake Story, is shown every half hour. There are exhibits that include park orientation information. There's also a Post Office at Steel Visitor Center. |
