The 22,200 acre Congaree National Park is located along the Congaree River in central South Carolina. It's home to champion trees, ancient forest landscapes, and diverse plant and animal life. The park protects the largest tract of old growth bottomland hardwood forest remaining in the United States. Because of its giant hardwoods and lofty pines, the park’s floodplain forest includes one of the highest canopies in the world and some of the tallest trees in the eastern United States. |
