Catoctin Mountain Park provides a glimpse into the diverse historical and cultural resources of the area. The park presents several viewpoints of our nation's history within one small area. Native Americans quarried Rhyolite for the production of stone tools. Evidence of the charcoal and iron industry is still visible today. You can still find remnants of smaller industries such as sawmills, farms, and even an old moonshine still. Historic structures and products of the Works Progress Administration and the Civilian Conservation Corps reminders of youth programs that were used to strengthen the nation’s economic and social fabric during tough times. Catoctin Mountain Park is the site of our nation's first Job Corps Center. |
