Magnolia Plantation is exceptional because of the farming technology, such as the cotton picker tractors and two cotton gins (both steam- and animal-powered). It also has 21 buildings contributing to the site, an unusual number for surviving plantations. |

Magnolia’s eight duplex-style quarters are the remnants of a rare masonry slave village. The cabins were initially built in the 1840s to house two slave families each. In the twentieth century, the two rooms were linked to form single-family tenant housing and furnished with electricity. The cabins were used by workers who lived and worked on the plantation for 100 years after the Civil War. |
