Sleeping quarters and living area in the lighthouse.  The National Park Service has refurbished the interior to its historic 1880’s appearance

The 5 foot, 3rd order French Fresnel lens was the best technology available in the early 1850s.  On November 15, 1855, the lighthouse keeper climbed the winding stairs and lit the oil lamp for the first time.   During clear weather its light was visible at sea for 25 miles. The lighthouse was in service for 36 years.
